Founder, Roshmond “Sum” Patten

Artist + Researcher + AI Governance Advisor

Although AI is currently having its mainstream moment, our founder Roshmond “Sum” Patten has been operating in its orbit for nearly a decade. His roles range from artist and researcher to creative director, game developer and strategist. His work also supports community organizing and movement-aligned research.

For over two decades, Sum has helped artists and organizations navigate moments of change. Particularly where technology shifts how we create, connect, and move through the world.

His journey with AI began before the current boom. He helped train music discovery algorithms, challenged predictive policing tools, and joined initiatives that valued an artist-led, historically aware perspective. Since then, he has helped develop education programs at Howard University and Virginia Tech, and currently serve as a chapter advisor for the global think tank AI 2030.

Sum’s guiding forces are human liberation, ecological harmony, and unfiltered creative expression. In 2020, he founded The Kizmet Experience Studio to explore new ways of telling stories and imagining worlds—through music, media, and deep systems thinking.

Somewhere along the way, he realized his artistic perspective could be useful to others. Now he offers what he’s learned through AI advisory, workshops and one-on-one sessions, shaped to meet you where you are.
